Pathibhara Devi Temple, also known as Mukkumlung by the local Limbu people, is a renowned religious site situated at an altitude of 3,794 meters above sea level in the Taplejung district of eastern Nepal. Nestled in the heart of the Himalayas, this sacred site holds both natural beauty and deep spiritual significance. Pathibhara Devi is worshipped by both local and international devotees as a wish-fulfilling goddess and a remover of obstacles. The temple is dedicated to Pathibhara Devi, a powerful goddess believed to fulfill the wishes of her devotees. It is one of the most revered temples in Nepal and holds great spiritual significance for both Hindus and Buddhists.
According to legend, a group of local shepherds once lost hundreds of sheep while grazing in the very area where the temple now stands. In their distress, the shepherds had a divine vision in which Goddess Pathibhara instructed them to perform a ritual sheep sacrifice and build a temple in her honor. Miraculously, after the offering was made, the lost herd returned. Since then, the tradition of sacrificial offerings at the temple has continued. Devotees regard Pathibhara as a fearsome yet benevolent goddess, who is easily pleased by sincere acts of love, devotion, and sacrifice. However, she is believed to be merciless toward those with evil intentions.
