Trip Overview

Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trek is one of the most incredible trekking experiences in the eastern part of Nepal. The trek takes you to the foot of Kanchenjunga (8,598m), the world’s third-highest mountain, which straddles the border between Nepal and the Indian state of Sikkim. This classic route visits both the South and North Base Camps of this majestic peak.

After a flight to Bhadrapur, we drive to Ilam and then to Phungling Bazaar in Taplejung, where our trek begins. Starting at lower altitudes, we pass through rice fields and traditional villages inhabited by the Tarai Newar, Rai, Limbu, and Chhetri communities. The journey begins in the tropical lowlands of Taplejung. From there, the trail leads south through lush forests and neatly terraced hillsides, gradually ascending toward the mighty Himalayas. As we climb higher, the views become increasingly spectacular. Trekking across glacial moraines, we are rewarded with breathtaking vistas of Kanchenjunga’s towering presence. Opened to trekking only in 1988, the Kanchenjunga region offers a rare opportunity to explore a pristine mountain wilderness. The route winds through remote, rarely visited villages and culminates in some of the most awe-inspiring high mountain scenery on earth. We retrace our steps through stunning landscapes, gradually descending back to Taplejung, and finally flight back to Kathmandu from Bhadrapur.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu Airport (1,350m), meet our staff and transfer to Hotel.
Day 02: Free day in Kathmandu, preparation and briefing about trekking at evening.
Day 03: Flight to Bhadrapur (91m) then drive to Ilam/Phidim Bazar (370m) O/N at Hotel.
Day 04: Drive from Ilam Bazar to Taplejung, Phungling Bazar (1,824m). O/N at Hotel/Teahouse Lodge.
Day 05: Trek from Taplejung - Lali Kharka (2,200m). O/N at Teahouse Lodge.
Day 06: Lali Kharka - Khesewa (1,960m - Kande Danda). O/N at Teahouse Lodge.
Day 07: Khesewa - Mamankhe (1,920m). O/N at Teahouse Lodge.
