Trip Overview

Mt. ABI Peak stands at height of 6,043 metres situated in the Khumbu region at the Mahalangur Himalayan range of Nepal. ABI Peak Climbing is one of the classic and alpine style climbing peak of Nepal which is compose of the rock-ice mixture mountain in Mahalangur Himal chain. Abi Peak climbing is a perfect training mountain for ice climbing and high altitude acclimatization. Being technically a difficult peak, Mount Abi requires a careful ascent to the summit. The summit ridge is narrow and can only be scaled to the top in good weather condition. We require approx 200m of fixed ropes and other essential climbing gear. According to Sherpa language ‘ABI” mean small mountains. Mt. ABI peak is also called as 'Kangchung Peak' or, 'Cholo' from where the pass reaches it and the Kangchung La so both of these peaks could be an adventure peak in itself.

The only challenge of climbing ABI or Kangchung Peak summit is to overcome ice falls however wind, snow, short but steep vertical approach can be extremely tough even for experienced mountaineers. ABI peak is specially designed for all those mountaineers who are seeking to climb the peaks above 8000 metres also best destination to have an experience or training of ice climbing and high altitude acclimatization. So that to ascend the Mt. ABI peak all the mountaineers should require careful ascent due to its technical ridges towards its peak. This peak was issued as a climbing peak since 2002 by Nepal Mountaineering Association even though it is taken as moderate peak climbing of Nepal. Mt. ABI peak is successfully ascended less than 6 times and it’s recognizing a route is Lukla - Gokyo Lake, Thagna and Abi Base Camp.

Cultural Treks guide led the Abi Peak trip hike up to Gokyo-Ri to enjoy breathtaking views of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Makalu, Mt. Cho Oyu and other surrounding peaks. Our itinerary brings you the same way to Lukla and flight out. But if the climbers want we can trek all the way to Everest Base Camp after or before the summit Abi peak. The trekking itinerary is subject to change as your interest and time.
