Trip Overview

Nirekha Peak is an exciting mountain adventure that begins in Kathmandu. Next, we fly to Lukla and begin trekking from there. We trek in the famous ‘Khumbu’ region of Nepal which is also the cultural heartland of the famous ‘Sherpas’. We reach the base camp of Nirekha Peak after crossing the Cho La Pass at (5,368m). It has not been long since Nirekha Peak (6,159m) was open for climbing. Therefore, it is less crowded and provides a truly unique mountain climbing experience for seasoned climbers. From the summit of Nirekha Peak, the magnificent views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Tawache, Cholatse, Pumori, Changri and other Himalayas are ours to marvel at. On our trip, we also climb Gokyo Ri, trek alongside the Ngozumpa glacier, which is the longest glacier in Nepal and tour the beautiful Gokyo Lakes which are the world’s highest freshwater lakes. It was first ascent by Matt Fioretti and Greg Valentine in April 2003. The second ascent was done by an all-women team in October 2003.

It’s a great route for experienced alpine climbers. The ascent is mostly on ice and snow but demands good fitness and acclimatization as most of the difficult climbing is above 5,800 metres only experienced climbers should attempt this route, though it is partially saved with fixed ropes. The summit consists of two summit pyramids.
