Trip Overview

Mera Peak stand at elevates of 6,470 metres above the sea level in the Mahalangur himalayan range, south of Mount Everest in Nepal. When this is combined with the fact that it offers unparalleled views and stunning panoramas it makes this trekking peak one of the most sought after mountaineering trips in Nepal. Mera Peak Climbing is never particularly technically difficult, but there is the altitude to contend with which makes this an exciting and challenging trip. Mera Peak contains three main summits Mera Peak central 6,461 metres, Mera Peak North 6,470 metres and Mera Peak South 6,065 metres - (19,898 ft). We ascend Mera Peak preferably during the spring and autumn seasons as it’s the best time to climb the mountain for its astonishing views of the Himalayan Vista. Five 8,000m peaks are visible from the summit including Mount Everest, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Makalu and Kanchenjunga and several other peaks. The first ascent of Mera Central by Col J.O.M. Roberts and Sen Tenzing on May 20, 1953, and Mera North on 1975 by French climbers Marcel Jolly, G. Baus and L. Honills via standard climbing route though some sources state that it was climbed on 29 October 1973 and the climbers included L. Limarques, Ang Lhakpa and two other Sherpas.

Our Mera Peak Itinerary is carefully designed with steady ascent and a separate day set aside in Khare to allow plenty of time for acclimatization. The usual route to Mera Peak is directly via the Zatrwa La Pass and Hunku Valley, but we follow the route that heads south from Lukla and up the beautiful Hinku Valley and later return via Zatrwa La pass. Following this route has a few advantages. We not only pass through the beautiful Nepalese wilderness but also through quaint villages which will give us a glimpse into the rich culture of the locals. Additionally, since the route is longer, it’s better for acclimatization. Mera Peak North height (6,470m) officially fixed by the Nepal Mountaineering Association.
