Kantega Expedition (6,779m.) is also identified as ‘The Snow Saddle’ which rises predominantly to a saddle-shaped high point from the Khumbu and Hinku valley of the Everest region. The Snow Saddle is another beautiful mountain, which rises majestically to a saddle shaped summit from the Khumbu and Hinku Valley and sits next to another prominent mountain Thamserku to the north. We take about a week to reach the Kangtega base camp situated at the bottom of the Kangtega Ice-Fall, which resembles with the infamous Khumbu Ice Fall of Mount Everest. Setting up our base camp at (5,182m.). Though an obvious route up the mountain would be to follow the Ice Fall, we have to go for the rock face leading to a ridge around (6,070m.) and rappel down for about 70m. to reach at the top of the icefall to avoid possible icefall hazards. Kantega propounds myriad of miraculous views of the sounds great Khumbu region and its enclosed natural beauty, for that reason Kantega expedition is as icing on the cake.

In 1963, Mt. Kangtega was first surmounted by David Dornan, Tom Frost, Michael Gill and Jim Wilson on an expedition preceded over by the famous Edmund Hilary. Ever since this first expedition, mountaineers have come with the sole aim of conquering Kangtega, and many have succeeded. From 1963 to 2001 there are 28 known successful summits of Kangtega. The most successful attempts have come from the Northern side Like many of the mountains in its region, Mt. Kangtega peak climbing expeditions are considered technical climbing ventures and it is only suitable for those with adequate experience and experienced guides. Our approach to this mountain is start from Lukla toward Dudhkoshi River to the Base Camp of Kangtega.
