Lower Dolpo and Annapurnas

Lower Dolpo is an purely Tibetan region of wild trekking, high passes, remote villages & lots of wildlife with exciting exit crossing the many high passes leading to Jomsom in Lower Mustang, this will be a truly epic journey in Nepal

Lower Dolpo and Annapurnas TrekkingLower Dolpo and Annapurnas Trekking in the Dolpo Region has only been permitted since mid-1989. The region located to the west of the Kali Gandaki Valley. Dolpo is located inside the Shey-Phoksundo National Park in mid-western Nepal, behind the Dhaulagiri massif, towards the Tibetan plateau. Dolpo is also still a stronghold of the pre-Buddhist, shamanistic Bon-po religion as well as Tibetan Buddhism and its culture. It is a tough, mountainous region of fortified villages, 'dzongs', turquoise lakes, sacred mountains and high passes, susceptible to heavy snows which isolate it from the rest of Nepal for much of the year.

Dolpo to Jomsom TrekkingLower Dolpo and Annapurnas trek begins with a spectacular flight along the Himalayan range to Juphal. We head up the Suligad River gorge to Phoksumdo Lake and cross our first 5000 meter pass leading to sacred Shey Gompa and the 'Crystal Mountain'. Another pas later, in Thinle's village of Saldang, we have free days to explore the surrounding Tibetan-style villages, busy with their Autumn harvests. From Saldang we head into ever more remote regions of Dolpo, Khoma, Shimen & Tinkyu in the fantastic Panzang valley. Pure Dolpo and few other trekkers. The trails connecting these remote villages and high passes are some of the most culturally interesting and spectacular routes in Dolpo, and the inhabitants still trade with Tibet along the old salt routes of Dolpo Region.
