Island and Mera Peak

A magnificent panoramic view circuit of the Everest Region with challenging ascents of Island and Mera Peak

Kala Pattar, Island and Mera Peak ClimbingThe beauty of its mountains, hospitality and warmth of its Sherpa people are legendary. This combining wonderful trek takes us into the heart of the Khumbu Valley and visits Everest Base Camp as well as Hunku Valley for Mera Peak climbing at east side of Khumbu Region. An ascent of Kala Pattar (5545m), is good acclimatization and gives us magnificent close-up views of Everest. Leaving the main trail we decent to Chhukung via Dingboche then  next day we will move into the Imja Valley to the base of Island Peak. The climb of Island Peak (6160m.) is challenging, involving scrambling on rock, an ascent of a snow face and then tackling the final ridge. For those who are well acclimatized, determined and have the energy, the views from the top provide some of the most striking and stunning scenery in the Khumbu region. Our trek return back to Lukla within few days and then join the trail of Hunku valley for Mera peak expedition as this is a combining programs for those who want to climb Island peak and Mera as well at same time.

Kala Pattar, Island and Mera Peak ExpeditionMera Peak start from Lukla a superb trek takes us away from the more frequented trails, which lead to Everest Base Camp and over a little used pass to the east, through which we enter the sparsely inhabited Hinku Valley. From here we walk northwards through a beautiful high alpine environment, where Mera Peak, at 6654m. the highest trekking peak in Nepal, towers over the valley. Traversing around to the north, however, we find a softer side to the mountain, and from here it is a non-technical climb which anyone with ice-axe and crampon experience can attempt. Our descent, surprisingly fast, brings us back to Lukla and take flight back to Kathmandu.
